The mid-sized sedan segment in the country has seen a lot of development in the recent times.
With the launch of the Toyota Yaris, and the constant developments with the Hyundai Verna and the Honda City, the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz was the only car that had not seen a major update ever since it first came in 2014.
To keep up with the times, the company has finally given the car an upgrade.
The new Ciaz gets a mild-hybrid drivetrain as standard across the petrol and diesel models.
The changes on the front are quite prominent and do adapt better to today’s designs, with the LED DRLs on the newly designed swept-back headlights and a fresh new grille. The front end also gets a new bumper that now covers the fog lamps in chrome.
At the rear, not much has changed. The car houses similar shaped tail-lamps. This time around, the tail-lights come with LED inserts.
However, the biggest change is the new petrol motor.
The new Ciaz will be powered by an all-new 1.5 litre K-series (K15) engine that churns out 103bhp of power along with 138Nm of torque.
The engine will be made in India itself. The diesel engine remains the same 1.3litre turbocharged that makes 89bhp of power and 200Nm of torque. Maruti Suzuki has made some tall claims in terms of mileage on the new Ciaz. It says the petrol engine is rated at 21.56 kmpl for the manual gearbox and 20.28 kmpl for the automatic variant. The diesel variant, on the other hand gives about 28 kmpl, according to Maruti Suzuki.
On the inside also, the new Ciaz doesn’t feature many changes. The beige interiors have been carried over. However, there are minor changes in the interiors like the wooden accents, to give it a more premium look. There is an all new steering wheel and a new instrument cluster that now shows more information on the MID. The new Ciaz now also gets cruise control.
