Kawasaki is making deeper inroads into the Indian market, and after its recent launches of Versys and Ninja, it’s time for the Vulcan S to make its debut in the country.

This is Kawasaki’s first cruiser bike in the country, packing a 650cc engine and priced at a competitive Rs 5.44 lakh (ex-showroom).

The bike goes up against a slew of sub-800cc bikes in the country, most notably the Harley Davidson Street 750 and the incoming Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 that will make its way by April this year. The Vulcan S will make its appearance at the upcoming Auto Expo 2018.

The bike will get assembled from Kawasaki’s Chakan plant, which means you only get one colour variant of the Vulcan S to choose from.

You get a 649cc, 2-cylinder liquid-cooled engine which is paired to a 6-speed gearbox.

Kawasaki claims to produce 61PS of power and 63NM of torque, making it livelier than the 59NM of torque on offer with the Street 750.

You get ABS-ready disc brakes on both the tyres, with 300-mm double piston caliper on the front and 250-mm single piston caliper at the back.

Being a cruiser, the Vulcan S offers low-seating position with its 130mm ground clearance, which is ideal for a commuter that can double up as a tourer whenever required.

The bike weighs 235 kg (kerb weight), and comes with a 14-litre fuel tank.

Bajaj is likely to debut its Dominar 400 engine with Avenger in a new avatar, while Harley Davidson and its peers will update their existing base with newer variants.

The cruiser segment in the country is expanding, and with the Royal Enfield 650 twins yet to come, expect many more eye-catching launches throughout 2018.
