Honda has launched a new commuter segment motorcycle that is BS-6 compliant. The Honda SP125, is a 125 cc motorcycle, with price starting at Rs 72,900 ex-showroom. The company says it is offering a six-year warranty on the bike and has filed as many as 19 patents.
The Honda SP125 has a typical commuter segment motorcycle design, with some graphics adding to the style quotient. It comes with alloy wheels and an option of a disc or drum brake in front. It is equipped with a combined-braking system, which is part of the mandatory safety kit.
Honda has given the SP125 a fair degree of equipment. It comes with a digital instrument panel that shows fuel consumption, gear indicator, eco-indicator, service indicator and distance to empty among other features.
The engine is a single-cylinder, 125-cc motor that now has programmed electronic fuel injection. It also comes with an ACG starter which ensures quick and noiseless starts for the bike. What it does is use the alternator as a starter motor to spin the engine, thereby eliminating the meshing sound that starter motors make.
The engine is mated to a five-speed transmission. It also features a “piston-swing back” function that helps the bike start easier. Honda has also added an integrated engine-kill and start switch for convenience. But it also has a kick-start mechanism.
The bike also gets an always-on LED headlamp and LED tail lamp. The rear gets adjustable shock absorbers. The Honda SP125 is available in four colours – green, grey, red and blue.
The Honda SP125 competes with the likes of the Hero Splendor 125 and Bajaj Pulsar 125.
