American automaker General Motors has issued a recall of 10,37,982 units of Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 1500 due to a potential seat-belt safety issue. The problem came to light through warranty data and according to the company, has not been a cause of any known accident, injury or fatality. The affected models are the ones manufactured during 2014-15.
A flexible steel cable that connects the seat-belt to the vehicle can fatigue and separate and over time and as a result start to bend under the stress of owners getting into and out of the pickup. The company will contact the owners of these trucks and fix this issue.
The Chevrolet Silverado is the second best selling pick up in US, and is also sold in Middle East, Canada and Mexico. According to GM, the number of Silverados in US alone can be almost 9 lakhs.
