One of the highlights of the Geneva Motor Show 2018 was the unveiling of the Rimac C_Two (that's how Rimac likes to call its Concept 2). Croatian company Rimac Automobili has just built what is probably the world's fastest accelerating car.
It is capable of going from 0-100 kmph in 1.85 seconds – that's faster than it takes you to read this sentence! It can hit a top speed of over 415 kmph.
While it is the fastest accelerating car, it is not the fastest in terms of top speed. That distinction is split between the Hennessey Venom and Koenigsegg Regera, with each trying to outdo the other.
It is the fastest electric car, though.
The Rimac C_Two is powered by four electric motors that put out a combined 1,915 bhp and 2,300 Nm torque. Those are some insane numbers, which is why it accelerates so fast – limited only by physics of friction from the Pirelli P-Zero wheels. The Rimac is faster than the new Tesla Roadster by 0.05 seconds – the Roadster hits 100 kmph in 1.9 seconds.
If that's not all, it is also capable of a range of 650 km on a single charge from its 120 KwH lithium ion batteries. The Rimac C_Two is loaded with technology as well. It is capable of level 4 autonomous driving with eight cameras, six radars, and a whole lot of other sensors.
Rimac plans to build only a 100 of these cars and each would cost well over $1 million. But it's not a car for everybody, right? These are the cars that make you wake up and head to work to save that extra dollar, in the hope you will be able to afford one some day.
Incidentally, only eight of the earlier version of the Rimac C1 were built. That was slightly less powerful, but the Rimac C_Two is more advanced.
