Tesla owner Elon Musk tweeted out to the world that he is looking to get the Tesla cars to India. If not this year, then “definitely next!”.

Replying to a tweet on when the cars can be expected in India, Musk replied saying “Would love to be there this year. If not, definitely next!”.

Elon Musk has earlier spoken on how India is on the company's radar and how it is looking to introduce its cars in the country. So much so, Tesla even slated India to be one of the countries where the Model 3 would be available for booking. Sadly, all of these have been empty promises till now.

The company just announced its crossover SUV the Model Y which has been launched at a starting price of $39,000. Many were expecting that Tesla would come to India in 2017, but it seems those plans have been stalled or pushed forward.

For long the Indian government has been pushing Tesla to setup a factory in India but in May 2018 Musk had tweeted about “some challenging government regulations” acting as a hurdle for the electric vehicle company.

Currently, the company has already made plans of setting up a factory in Shanghai in China with an investment of $5 billion.

Nevertheless, being one of the biggest markets in the world, which is looking to transform its transportation system into an all-electric one, Indian consumers are still waiting for Tesla to come to its shores.

India has very few electric cars at the moment, with a couple from Mahindra and Tata on the roads, while Maruti Suzuki and MG Motor are set to launch their vehicles soon.
