Is it an SUV? Is it a sedan? No, it’s the 2019 BMW X4, that combines the styling of a coupe with the body proportions of an SUV, much like its bigger sibling the BMW X6. The BMW X4 has just been launched in India at a starting price of Rs 60.60 lakh, with prices going up to Rs 65.90 lakh across three variants.
BMW X4 Prices in India
- BMW X4 xDrive20d M Sport: Rs 60.60 lakh
- BMW X4 xDrive30d M Sport: Rs 65.90 lakh
- BMW X4 xDrive30i M Sport (petrol): Rs 63.50 lakh
The BMW X4 comes with a choice of two diesel motors and one petrol motor. The base variant gets 2-litre four-cylinder diesel engine that puts out 188 bhp of power and 400 Nm of torque. It can propel this car from 0-100 kmph in about 8 seconds. The larger top-of-the-line diesel is the 30d, which gets a 3-litre, six-cylinder diesel engine that puts out 216 bhp of power and 620 Nm of torque.
The petrol model gets a 2-litre, four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that puts out 248 bhp of power and 350 Nm of torque. It can go from 0-100 kmph in about 6.3 seconds. All variants get all-wheel drive and an 8-speed automatic transmission.
The car has been built on a new platform that despite being larger than the previous car, has saved nearly 50Kg of weight overall. This means the car offers slightly better rear legroom and headroom (which was a complaint many had with the old X6 model). A longer wheelbase has resulted in an increase in cabin space and a larger boot too.
The BMW X4 shares a lot of its parts with the BMW X3. It also gets a lot of features like gesture control for the infotainment system, wireless charging, parking assist system and rear-view camera.
The car will be locally assembled at BMW’s factory in Chennai. It will compete with Mercedes GLC Coupe and the Range Rover Evoque, although it is priced in an inbetween band, more expensive than the Evoque, but cheaper than the GLC Coupe.
