Cars around the world are built for different purposes like inter-city travel, off-roading and high fuel efficiency. Some of them are performance oriented, and frankly, they are the best ones.

There are plenty of cars which are fast, but fail to offer an exciting driving experience and that is what differentiates the wannabe performance cars from the real performing ones.

These cars are light, zippy and mind-bending fast, and a lot of them made their way to India in 2015. We bring you a list of the best ones and unable to choose a favourite from this lot, we decided to go in no particular order.

Audi RS7 Sportback

Audi has been on a roll in India with a total of 8 launches in 2015. These cars were intended to appeal to a wide range of audience, be it A3, TT, Q3, A6 Matrix, or the Audi Q7.

But there was one in particular that impressed the adrenaline enthusiasts the most – The Audi RS7 Sportback.

The car is powered by a twin-turbo V8 petrol engine that by no measure promises fuel efficiency. It churns out 560 horses and has a mammoth torque of 700 Nm. It can do a 0-100 km/h dash in just 3.9 seconds. There are three optional top speeds that an owner can demand on their RS7, of 250/280/305 km/h.

This car offers luxury at the speed of sound.

The long bonnet, large air inlets and the large radiator grille with the three-pointed star immediately make the Mercedes-AMG GT S stand out of the crowd.

The car is powered by a handcrafted AMG 4 Litre V8 biturbo engine which churns out a whopping 510 Horsepower and 650 Nm of Torque. The engine is connected to an AMG Speedshift DCT 7-speed transmission.

The performance figures are even more impressive. The car can go from a standstill to 100 km/h in a matter of 3.8 seconds and has a top speed of 310 km/h. This is because the car is extremely lightweight as the chassis of the car weighs a mere 231 kilos.

The Mercedes-AMG GT S has everything a performance car should have. It looks stunning, sounds fantastic and goes mind-blowingly fast.

Fiat Abarth 595

One look at the Fiat Abarth 595 Competizione and you know that there is something fishy about this car. It looks like the 500, Fiat’s classic car known for its nimble looks and tonnes of cuteness. But under its hood, the Abarth 595 is a monster, unlike the 500.

The small-yet-powerful 3-door hatchback with 160PS @ 4400rpm of power goes 0-100 in 7.6 seconds, thanks to the 1.4 Litre T-Jet engine.

When we reviewed the 595, we found that it’s a cute little beast that every performance car enthusiast would love to have.

Audi RS6 Avant

The Audi RS6 Avant looks fantastic, there’s no doubt about that. The more you look at it, the harder it is to look away. So, let’s just get down to performance figures.

The 4.0 litre V8 TFSI engine pushes out 700 Nm of torque and accelerates the Audi RS6 Avant from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds. The propulsive power ends at an electronically regulated 250 km/h, with the option of boosting the top speed to 280 km/h or 305 km/h.

These figures are hard to match for even full on supercars with much bigger engines and a lot higher price.

The Mercedes CLA is one of the best-looking sedans in the country right now that offers luxury that can put any high-end saloon to shame. And when it gets the AMG treatment, it becomes one hell of a car.

The CLA AMG is like travelling in a rocket that’s been fitted with a couch. It takes you from a standstill to 100 km/h in a matter of a mere 4.3 seconds thanks to the AMG powered 2-litre engine that produces 381 horsepower and is connected to a 7-speed transmission.

It also comes with features like an electric parking brake, 7-inch infotainment system, 6 airbags as standard and automatic headlamps. Plus, it finds out when you’re sleepy while driving and gives you auditory and visual warning to keep you awake.

The combination of such luxury and speed also landed this car in our Top 5 Luxury Sedans list.
