What’s New with the 2018 Ford Aspire?
The Ford Aspire has always been one of the most spacious cars in its segment. Its strong points are also its ride quality and driving feel. However, the petrol variants weren’t really peppy performers, while the diesel was the car of choice.
Ford has changed that in the 2018 Aspire, which now gets a 1.2 litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine (Dragon Series) - the same as the Ford Freestyle.
The 1.2 litre petrol motor puts out 96PS of power and 120 Nm of torque, making it the most powerful in its segment. It also gets a new 5-speed gearbox (again, first seen on the Freestyle).
It also claims a fuel efficiency of 20.4 Kmpl.
The car also gets minor cosmetic updates such as a new front grille, revised bumpers, minor design tweak to the tail-lamps and a new design for the 15-inch alloy wheels on the top-end variant.
In terms of equipment, it gets an updated SYNC 3 infotainment system with Apple Car Play and Android Auto (on the Titanium Plus variant), automatic headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, push-button start, reverse camera and two USB ports (similar to the Ford Freestyle).
Ford Aspire vs Maruti Dzire
How does the Ford Aspire stack up against the segment leader - the Maruti Dzire? It is slightly cheaper in terms of price. The Maruti Dzire is priced between Rs 5.60 lakh and Rs 9.45 lakh.
The Aspire is also more powerful than the Dzire. The Maruti Dzire petrol puts out 83PS of power and 113 Nm of torque, while the diesel puts out 74 bhp of power and 190 Nm of torque. The Aspire diesel puts out 100 PS of power and 215 Nm of torque.
However, in terms of features, the Dzire still offers a little more – such as LED projector headlamps, daytime running lamps, rear AC vents and GPS navigation. It’s also slightly more fuel efficient.
Ford Aspire vs Honda Amaze
Compared to the 2018 Honda Amaze, the Ford Aspire is again slightly cheaper. Amaze prices range between Rs 5.6 lakh and Rs 9 lakh. The Amaze and Aspire are both pretty spacious compact sedans.
In terms of features though, the Amaze offers slightly more than the Aspire, with the top-end model getting cruise control and a navigation system. It also offers a CVT automatic on the diesel variant.
The Aspire makes more power and torque than the Amaze. The petrol Amaze’s 1.2 litre engine puts out 90PS of power and 110 Nm of torque, while the diesel 1.5 litre unit puts out 100 PS of power and 200 Nm of torque.
