Bytes & Bolts is The Quint’s take on everything in the world of technology and automobiles. We aim to bring this to you on a regular basis with a unique take on the top stories in technology and automobiles.
This week the focus has been on Facebook and Cambridge Analytica, and the alleged data misuse. While Facebook has since apologised for the data breach, the story is still unfolding. How safe is your data really? What’s the India connection to this? We’ve got a take on that.
Besides Facebook, the UIDAI also had another set of data leaks – Aadhaar data was again allegedly available online, which included even bank account details. However, the UIDAI continues to deny any breach of its data, going so far as to cite the thickness and size of the walls of its data centre, to prove how safe India’s unique identity project’s data is.
Bytes and Bolts also follows trends in the tech and auto sector. This time it’s the notch – yes, the notch that was popularised by the Apple iPhone X. A whole bunch of new smartphones now sport the notch and Android is also working on a software update to support ‘notch’ phones.
We also look at autonomous cars and their likely future after an Uber self-driving car met with an accident in the US. It’s the first reported case of an autonomous car knocking down and killing a cyclist. Is technology to blame or was it human error? Will India get to see autonomous cars, ever? We’ve got a view on that.
And then there are other smart devices – after phones and TVs, it’s now tyres. Tyres that can talk to web portals and broadcast their state of health. Smart tyres do lend themselves to a variety of applications. Here’s our take on all this and more in Bytes and Bolts.
Oh, in case you were wondering about the name – it’s supposed to cover tech and auto, hence ‘Bytes’ and ‘Bolts’. Get it? Got a better name? Write to us or comment below.
