When you leave home, you don’t need to really take your iPhone with you if you have your Apple Watch Series 3 with you. The Apple Watch Series 3 that was launched in Cupertino in California, starts at Rs 29,900 in India. It will be available from 5 October 2017, with pre-orders starting from 15 September.
The Series 1 Sports band will also continue to be available at Rs 21,900. In the US, the Apple Watch Series 3 comes at prices of $249, $329 and $399.
The third-generation Apple Watch is a health and fitness companion that comes with a coaching feature. It is also water resistance up to 50 metres depth and has a barometric altimeter that measures relative elevation. Apple Watch Series 3 comes in two models, one with GPS and cellular, and one with GPS only, both featuring a 70 percent faster dual-core processor and new wireless chip than the previous watch.
The watch also has an electronic sim (eSIM), built into the watch, which pairs with your iPhone, so it shares the same number. But it does not need to be near the iPhone and acts as an independent cellular device, meaning you need not carry your phone with you at all times.
The Apple Watch Series 3 can also stream over 40 million songs using a combination of cellular data and Watch OS 4. It can be used in conjunction with Apple’s Air Pods.
Another useful feature addition in the Watch Series 3 is the heart rate monitor. It provides alerts when it detects irregular heart beats or elevated heart rates. Apple is using this data for the Apple Heart Study that will be carried out, across users of the watch.
