The internet is an effective tool of communication and education and has the power to brighten up young minds. Reaffirming this, innovator and education reformist Sonam Wangchuk took to his Facebook to share details of an interesting seminar that he addressed from Ladakh over video conferencing, thanks to Airtel 4G.

In his post dated Mar 8, Wangchuk said, “This Sunday was very special for me. It was perhaps the first time ever that a person in Ladakh addressed a live seminar in another city using video-conferencing over public internet.” He was speaking to around 250 Ladakhi students who were watching him from an auditorium in Chandigarh as part of a seminar organised by Ladakh Students Association. Wangchuk was pleased that everything went smoothly barring a few glitches and added that the next day, he addressed another set of students in Nagpur in a similar way.

Wangchuk thanked Airtel 4G for bringing this digital revolution to Ladakh, a place that’s characterised by difficult terrain and harsh weather conditions. Last December, Airtel became the first operator to launch 4G services in the region as part of its Project Leap initiative. In line with the government’s Digital India vision, the company is committed to introducing high-speed internet even in the remotest parts of the country.

While Wangchuk hails the power of the internet in his post, he also has a word of caution specially for all the Ladakhi youngsters out there. He calls the internet a double-edged sword that should be handled carefully. While concluding, Wangchuk announced that he was planning to do another live session on the pros and cons of the internet on Mar 10, and that too in the Ladakhi language.

Now that high-speed internet has reached Ladakh, thanks to Airtel 4G, one can’t wait to see how many more young minds will Wangchuk enlighten.
