All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been enjoying a dream run at the ongoing ICC World Cup while also helping keep Bangladesh in the hunt for a place in the last four. Against Afghanistan on Monday, 24 June, Shakib became the first Bangladesh cricketer to score 50 runs and pick a five-wicket haul in the same match.
He also registered a few other records as his stellar performance helped Bangladesh to move to the fifth position in the points table.
He has now got past 1,000 World Cup runs for Bangladesh, besides becoming the first player ever to score over 400 runs and pick up 10 wickets in the World Cup.
In the post-match presentation, Shakib thanked the fans for their continuous support throughout the World cup so far. He appealed to the fans to keep supporting further the Tigers in the tournament.
Speaking about his consistent performance for Bangladesh so far in the tournament, Shakib said this is the best he has ever been prepared for a tournament.
“Before this World Cup, I was fully prepared; it’s the best I have prepared and it’s paying off. A combination of hard-work and luck I guess.”Shakib Al Hasan
Speaking about the team’s performance, Shakib hailed the contribution of his teammates in what was a crucial win for Bangladesh, especially Mushfiqur Rahim’s knock.
“Without Mushy (Rahim) we would not have got where we got. Others chipped in with the bat as well. Overall, it’s a team effort and we know it’s gonna get tough with three spinners.”Shakib Al Hasan
Shakib concluded by saying that they will need to play their best cricket against India and Bangladesh in order to go through to the last four.
“Two more important games are coming up for us. India and Pakistan, we have to play to the best of our ability to win those matches but this win will give us a lot of confidence” concluded Shakib.
