Bangladesh on 2 June caused an upset in World Cup 2019 when they defeated South Africa at the Oval. Put in to bat, Bangladesh posted their highest-ever total in ODIs – 330/6 – and then restricted their opponents to 309/8.
The 21-run win was Bangladesh's fourth win in the World Cup under Mashrafe Mortaza as captain; no other Bangladesh captain had registered more than three victories in World Cup matches previously.
The 2019 World Cup is Mortaza's fourth World Cup appearance; he was part of the Bangladesh team in 2003, 2011 and 2015 too. He captained Bangladesh in the first four matches of World Cup 2015 and led the team to wins against Afghanistan, Scotland and England.
