The much awaited ICC Cricket World Cup came to an end on Sunday, 14 July at Lord's, London. The finale was packed with drama and excitement, with England taking home their maiden World Cup trophy after scoring the most number of boundaries against New Zealand.
England sure took the grand trophy home but there were several players who bagged the spotlight for their outstanding performances in course of the tournament.
Player of the Tournament
The award for the player of the tournament went to Kane Williamson. He scored 578 runs in the tournament and showcased his brilliant captaincy skills throughout the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.
This award was previously presented to Martin Crowe in 1992, Sanath Jayasuriya in 1996, Lance Klusener in 1999, Sachin Tendulkar in 2003, Glenn McGrath in 2007, Yuvraj Singh in 2011 and Mitchell Starc in 2015.
Most Runs
Rohit Sharma created a record with his score of 648 runs in nine games including 67 fours and 14 sixes. Highest total score by a team was by England for scoring 397 runs with 6 wickets and highest score by an individual player was by Warner – 166 runs.
Most Wickets
The title for a player who took the most wickets was bagged by Australian player Mitchell Starc. He set the record by taking 27 wickets during the course of the tournament.
Most Individual Sixes
Eoin Morgan scored 22 sixes, the most by any batsmen in ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. His 17 sixes in a match against Afghanistan – scored in a single inning – is the most number of sixes scored by any batsmen in the ODI cricket.
Most Individual Fours
Rohit Sharma scored the most fours that is 67 in the 9 games. Jonny Bairstow also scored the same number of fours but in 11 games.
Most Individual Centuries
Most centuries scored in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 was by Rohit Sharma as he scored 5 centuries – 3 in a row. He broke Kumar Sangakkara’s record of 4 centuries in a single World Cup tournament in 2015.
