Young Indian pacer Khaleel Ahmed is on his way back from England, according to a report. Khaleel, along with Avesh Khan and Deepak Chahar, was travelling with the Indian team as a net bowler in the ongoing Cricket World Cup in England and Wales.

According to the report, Khaleel got himself injured while training at a gym in England, which seems to be the reason for his return.

Khaleel’s return coincides with Rishabh Pant’s arrival after the later was flown in as a cover for the injured Shikhar Dhawan, who has been ruled out due to a thumb injury, sustained in the match against Australia on 9 June at The Oval in London.

After the squad was announced on the 15 April, Rishabh Pant, Ambati Rayudu and speedster Navdeep Saini were named as India’s designated standbys.

While Khaleel Ahmed, Avesh Khan and Deepak Chahar were selected to travel with the team purely as net bowlers. But if required the team management had the scope to draft the trio in the squad since ICC discontinued the probables list rule.

Khaleel made his ODI debut for India last year against Hong Kong during the Asia Cup in Dubai. The 21-year-old pacer has picked up 11 wickets in eight ODIs for India till now.
