Hosts England registered a convincing 8-wicket win over defending champions Australia to make their way into only their third ICC World Cup final, and also their first after 27 years.

The Eoin Morgan-led side will now face in the summit clash, second-time finalists New Zealand, who had defeated pre-tournament favourites India in a thrilling first semi-final on 10 July.

Now the interesting thing is, both the finalists – England and New Zealand – have never won an ICC World Cup title. And hence, this edition will see a first-time winner. The last time a team won their maiden ICC World Cup was in 1996, when Sri Lanka lifted their first and only trophy after defeating Australia in the final.

World Cup Record So Far

New Zealand: In the 11 editions of the ICC World Cup so far, the Kiwis have reached the semi-final stage seven times. However, it was only in the previous edition in 2015 when they managed to reach the final of the tournament. New Zealand had then suffered a 7-wicket loss in the low-scoring summit clash against Australia.

England: England have reached the final of the World Cup thrice – 1979, 1987, 1992 – but ended up on the losing side all three times. In the 2015 edition, the team failed to make it past the group stage, have registered four losses and two wins.

In the nine matches the two teams have played against each other, New Zealand have won five while England have won the other four.
