An injury scare during the England vs Afghanistan match in Manchester saw Hasmatullah Shahidi being hit on the head by a mark Wood delivery.
A steep bouncer from Wood saw Shahidi being hit on the back of his helmet. The batsman was then forced to lie flat on the ground as medics from not just the Afghanistan team but even the English team came onto the field to check on him.
Even the England fielders seemed concerned and reached out for help, the Afghanistan medic did a quick check on Shahidi and after 15 minutes, declared him fit to continue batting.
After restarting his innings, the batsman went onto score his 9th ODI half-century.
Earlier in the day, England skipper Eoin Morgan broke a plethora of records as he scored a 71-ball 148 after electing to bat first in Manchester.
Ace Afghan spinner Rashid Khan bowled a wicketless spell of 110 in 9 overs. Apart from Morgan’s ton, Jonny Bairstow (90) and Joe Root (88) scored fifties for England as they registered their highest ever World Cup total of 397/6.
