Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly is all set to become the next BCCI President. Today is the last day to file nomination papers for the elections for the various positions in the BCCI hierarchy, however, due to all top candidates standing unopposed, elections may end up not being held. This comes after weeks of lobbying and campaigning for the position.
BCCI’s New Top Brass
Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s son Jay Shah is set to take on the role of the secretary of the BCCI.
Brijesh Patel who was tipped to take the top position before Sourav Ganguly will be the new IPL Chairman.
With the news breaking on social media, a Twitter user said, “The new era of Indian cricket has started.”
Tributes poured in for the former captain as Twitterati celebrated the news of Ganguly returning to the national side fold. He was lauded for having “captained in the most crucial phase of Indian Cricket and nurtured talents 2000-2005,” and being the one who “changed Indian cricket”.
Journalist Abhijit Majumder said on Twitter, “The man of mega comebacks will again be the captain of Indian cricket, only in a different role. ”
With India winning their 11th consecutive home Test series and ranking at the top of the pile in ODI and Test formats, it will be interesting to see what structural changes the new BCCI President will bring about in Indian cricket.
