Since his retirement from professional tennis, it looks like Somdev Devvarman has gone back to his old hobby.
The former India number one tennis player was seen performing at his first public gig at a music festival in Chennai. Somdev, with his five-member band named ‘By the Way’, performed at the Covelong Point Surf, Music and Yoga Festival.
Apart from singing, Somdev also penned the lyrics for the songs.
He uploaded a video of his practice session on his Instagram page.
Somdev first broke onto the Indian circuit in 2008. He had a successful playing career at the college level in the United States.
Somdev won the singles and doubles gold for India at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou in China.
With his defensive approach, Somdev came up with some inspiring performances for India in the Davis Cup, including victories against Serbian Dusan Lajovic and Czech star Jiri Vesely in the 2014 and 2015 World Group Playoffs respectively.
Somdev also played in the finals of two ATP Tour events — the 2009 Chennai Open as a wildcard and the 2011 South Africa Open.
