He scored a record five centuries in the ICC World Cup and currently holds the top spot in the list of highest run-getters, but Indian opener Rohit Sharma said his ‘heart was heavy’ after the team’s exit from the tournament.
India suffered an 18-run loss to New Zealand in the semi-final at Old Trafford in Manchester on Wednesday, 10 July, putting an end to their dreaming of winning a third title.
Vice-captain Rohit, who starred for India in the tournament, shared an emotional post on 11 July.
'We failed to deliver as a team when it mattered, 30 minutes of poor cricket yesterday & that snatched away our chance for the cup. My heart is heavy as I’m sure yours is too,’ Rohit wrote.
Sharma also thanked the fans who came out to back the Indian cricket team at the ICC World Cup in England and Wales. ‘The support away from home was incredible. Thank you all for painting most of uk blue wherever we played,’ he wrote.
