Questions have been raised left, right and centre over the large group of Indian officials that have accompanied the athletes to Rio Olympics.

From officials getting preferential treatment over athletes, to their taking selfies, to their inclusion in the delegation instead of athletes’ support staff, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has been under fire since the beginning of the Games. Consequently, officials have replied to a lot of these allegations providing explanations.

Recently, ScoopWhoop published an article by Swati Chaturvedi which criticises the officials for partying away while athletes struggle to win medals. It went on to point fingers at many of the officials and their reason for being in Rio in the first place.

Raninder Singh, President of the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI), was one of the officials mentioned in the article. He has replied to the comments made on selfies he took in Rio and his family history.

He posted the replies on his Twitter account.

The article mentions that Raninder Singh is the son of Congress’ chief ministerial candidate in Punjab, Amarinder Singh and calls him the “scion of the Patiala family”.

The article also talks about other officials:

For company, Raninder has Abhay Singh Chautala, son of former Haryana Chief Minister, OP Chautala. Chautala Jr is also partying in Rio, while out on bail in a disproportionate assets case. His presence in Rio has foxed even the judge, as he didn’t bother to take the mandatory permission required to travel abroad.
