Bespectacled Mitchell Santner smashed Ben Stokes into the stands off the final delivery to guide Chennai Super Kings to a thrilling four wicket victory in an IPL game which saw a very public outburst from winning captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
CSK recorded their sixth win in seven games and continue to lead the IPL standings. For skipper MS Dhoni, it was his 100th win as an IPL captain, making him the first skipper in the league’s history to accomplish the feat.
However, it was his momentary burst of frustration at the umpires that’s got people talking on Twitter.
In the final over of the match, CSK needed 8 off 3 deliveries with Santner and Jadeja at the crease. Stokes bowled at the Kiwi batsman and the umpire signalled a no ball. The players ran two runs but somewhere in between the no-ball decision was revoked. While the CSK batsmen spoke to the umpires, a frustrated Dhoni walked into the playing field and had a heated discussion with the umpires.
The decision, however, was not reversed.
Santner went onto hit Stokes for a six off the last ball to win the match.
