Back in the squad after Rohit Sharma left for India following the birth of his first child, KL Rahul failed to make the most of his opportunity in Sydney, falling in the second over of the Indian innings.

The Bangalore cricketer edged twice in the first four balls faced, only for the ball to go to the boundary.

However, his luck did not last night, edging Hazlewood to first slip in the second over. Out on 9 to add to his scores of 2, 0, 2, 44 in this Test series.

Rahul partnered with childhood friend Mayank Agarwal at the top and it was India’s sixth opening pairing in 12 overseas Tests since January 2018. Mayank went onto score his second half century in as many matches while Rahul was roasted on Twitter for yet another batting failure.

India have an unassailable 2-1 series lead after winning the first Test in Adelaide by 31 runs and the third Test in Melbourne by 137 runs. Australia had won the second Test in Perth by 146 runs.

A victory in Sydney though will make this Indian team the first-ever to bag a Test series in Australia.
