After winning the toss and restricting Kings XI Punjab to 173/4 in their 20 overs, Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli walked out to bat, with an eye on registering their first win in the ongoing Indian Premier League season.
By the time captain Kohli walked back to the hut after scoring a 53-ball 67, RCB were well on their way to getting that big victory after six straight losses in IPL 2019.
And sometime in the middle of his knock, there was a fan in the stands at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, who wanted to greet the Indian skipper during his innings. And so he ran on to the field, and gave Virat a hug.
Only there was a Punjab police official on the sidelines who realised what was happening, and started running towards the miscreant.
As the police official reached the fan who had broken protocol to meet his idol, Virat Kohli seemed to tell the man in white to be easy on the boy.
But the police official would have none of it. As the boy was being dragged off the field, he turned back and gave Kohli a big smile and a thumbs up.
And as the boy was being dragged off, Kohli waved him a final goodbye.
All seems a bit dramatic, no?
Anyway, Kohli seemed to be in a good mood. Who knows, it may have been because he could smell RCB’s first win of the season!
