How crazy can you be for sports? Wait, hold that thought!

Here’s an Indonesian couple who is so fanatic about sports that they have named their baby ‘Asian Games’, even as their country ushered in the world’s second-biggest multi-sport event.

Abidah Asian Games was born in Palembang just hours before the opening ceremony of the Asian Games held at Jakarta’s Gelora Bung Karno Stadium last Saturday, reported AFP.

The infant’s father, Yordania Denny told AFP on Tuesday, 21 August that the couple had already picked the first name for the child but didn’t have a last name for her. The parents were inspired by what they termed an “historic” moment.

He further added, “Such an event is rare. It only happens every few years. And not to mention that it's in Palembang - it's rare for Palembang to host such an...event."

Jakarta and Palembang on Sumatra Islands are co-hosting the Asian Games, which is underway till 2 September and this is the first time that the Games are being co-hosted by two cities.

When asked if their newborn would possibly have a future in sports because of her unusual name, the mother told AFP, "If she has the talent and motivation, we will support and motivate her.” Her father hinted, however, that he would prefer badminton to be his daughter’s choice since, “the country is good at it”.

Not all Indonesian children have a last name and many have their father’s surname as their first name.

The new parents also said that they would allow Abidah to change her name in the future if she does not have the same appreciation for Asian Games.
