Openers Rohit Sharma (103) and KL Rahul smashed centuries as India chased down their 265-run total with comfortable easy, defeating Sri Lanka by 7 wickets in their last group stage match of the World Cup.
Courtesy this win, pre-tournament favourites India moved to the top of the standings with 15 points from nine games, with defending champions Australia still playing South Africa in the last league encounter of the game.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka who were already eliminated from the tournament previously, ended their campaign with yet another loss. This loss was their fourth of the campaign as they finished with 8 points from nine games.
India ended the group stage with just one loss against England as their match against New Zealand was abandoned without a ball being bowled. Apart from that, the rest of India’s campaign was flawless and dominating. With their top three being consistent throughout the tournament and their bowlers delivering consistently as well, India looks prepared for the semi-finals.
