National Conference leader Omar Abdullah, on Sunday, 1 July, questioned the Indian cricket team's "listless" performance against England in the World Cup on Sunday, 30 June.
He wondered whether the Indian team would put up a better show if its place in the semi-finals of the tournament was at stake.
"Would the batting be as listless if our place in the semifinals was at stake here rather than England's & Pakistan's? #CWC19," Abdullah tweeted.
India required 112 off the last 10 overs and that was when MS Dhoni walked out to bat after Rishabh Pant’s wicket. Known as the best finisher in ODI cricket, fans expected Dhoni to help India win the game with Kedar Jadhav at the other end.
However, things did not go as per expectations, as the former Indian skipper failed to hit big shots in the final overs. He finished his knock with a strike rate of 135.48 but India lost the game by 31 runs.
Despite the loss, India are still placed second on the points table with 11 points from seven games and have two games to go before the knockout stage begins.
They play Bangladesh next on 2 July followed by their final group game, against Sri Lanka on 6 July.
