Sri Lanka registered one of their worst losses in World Cup history as they went down against New Zealand in Cardiff on Saturday, 1 June.
Put into bat first, the Lankans were first skittled out for just 136 and then to embarrass them further the Kiwis got to the target with all 10 wickets in hand inside 16.1 overs.
Kiwi openers Martin Guptill (73) and Colin Munro (58) came into bat with an attacking approach and took it to the Sri Lankan bowlers who hardly had any runs to play with.
Earlier in the day, Matt Henry bowled a spectacular spell taking 3 for 29 to break the backbone of the Lankan batting line-up. He was backed up well by Lockie Ferguson and other bowlers as all of them were in the wickets.
Sri Lankan skipper Dimuth Karunaratne scored an unbeaten 52 off 84 balls as he ran out of partners at the other end.
Twitter wasn’t happy with the way Lankans meekly surrendered to the Kiwis. Here’s what they said on the match.
