KL Rahul scored his first World Cup ton as India beat Sri Lanka by 7 wickets in Leeds on Saturday, 6 July. After scoring two half-centuries, he scored only his second ODI ton after fellow opener Rohit Sharma scored his fifth in the World Cup.
Though he travelled with the team as a reserve opener, Rahul was batting at the No 4 spot before Shikhar Dhawan’s injury pushed him up the order.
On Saturday, Rahul stitched his third 100-plus partnership with Rohit Sharma in this World Cup as the duo added a 189-run stand while chasing 265 to win.
Rahul was finally dismissed on 111 by Lasith Malinga as the Lankan veteran overtook Wasim Akram’s tally off 55 of most World Cup wickets.
Meanwhile, Twitter congratulated Rahul for his three-figure score.
