With all the talk regarding their top three, their young players and their batting, Pakistan just got off to the worst possible start at the World Cup 2019.
In their campaign opener against West Indies, the 2017 Champions Trophy winners were bundled out for 105 in 21.4 overs, after they were put into bat by Windies captain Jason Holder, courtesy overcast conditions at Trent Bridge.
The decision proved out to be right as the two-time world champions got their first wicket in the third over with Imam-ul-Haq getting trapped off a short delivery.
And that was the story of the Pakistani batting order, short and fast bowling from the West Indies’ bowlers was too good for the 1992 World Cup winners.
While Oshane Thomas was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets, skipper Holder got three. Prolific all-rounder Andre Russell took two wickets and Sheldon Cottrell got a one.
And Twitter couldn’t contain themselves as Pakistan collapsed to their second lowest score in World Cup history.
Harsha Bhogle wrote on his Twitter account, “Afraid Pakistan are getting bullied by pace.........”
Ironically, Pakistan did go on to lose their first game in 1992 World Cup to West Indies, which they eventually went onto win.
