India defeated Pakistan at Old Trafford in Manchester stretching their lead over Pakistan to seven wins out of seven in the ICC World Cup.
With rain taking a major amount of screen time, viewers were treated to excellent analysis of the game by former players and experts alike. However, Gautam Gambhir, former Indian opening batsmen, faced flak on social media for his appearance and participation.
Gambhir Faces Flak
Netizens were quick to remind current MP from East Delhi, Gautam Gambhir, of his responsibilities. Twitterati were agitated with the fact that he was earning money by commentating on a game and not in his constituency working for the people. A Twitter user said, “1 Loksabha, 10 Vidhansabha, 40 Wards, hundreds of colonies,18,29,578 voters. But he chooses to enjoy in London & milk the money. How is Gautam Gambhir contributing to the country as an MP?”
Social media also pointed out that Gambhir was “doing commentary and making money out of a match he is opposing.” Following the events at Pulwama and Balakot, Gambhir had suggested that the Indian cricket team should boycott their match against the Pakistan cricket team. His participation in the spectacle following his advice to boycott the match was also not appreciated by fans.
