Hours after the iconic Notre Dame Cathedral caught fire, various footballers took to social media to express their grief.
The fire caused the collapse of the cathedral's iconic spire and destroyed its roof structure
Paris Saint-Germain took to twitter and wished “courage” to all those mobilised to extinguish the fire while also grieving over the fact that one of the most beautiful monuments of the city was up in flames.
“Terrible images of the Cathedral Notre-Dame de Paris, one of the most beautiful monuments of our city, in flames. Courage to all those mobilised to extinguish this fire,” tweeted Paris Saint-Germain in French.
Bafétimbi Gomis also tweeted about how the incident was an “Absolute Sadness” and how painful it was to see the structure up in the flames.
“My heart tightens at the sight of these images. Our lady from Paris struck by the flames: It is an absolute sadness,” tweeted Gomis.
“It’s complicated, I do not wish it on anyone. These things can not happen, I do not know what happened,” said Zinedine Zidane who was interviewed after the match between Real Madrid and Leganes
Didier Drogba, Adrian Rabiot, Kylian Mbappe, Neymar, and Alexandre Lacazette were also some of the footballers who took to social media to express their sadness over the incident.
