Bollywood actress and producer Anushka Sharma landed back home in Mumbai on Wednesday night, one day before the Indian cricket team start the second Test against England at Lord’s.

Sharma was returning from England where she had joined husband and Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli during the one-day series against the country last month. She was a regular feature in the stands during the ODI series and was also present when Virat scored India’s only century in the first Test against England last week.

The popular actress found herself in the middle of a controversy on Wednesday after the BCCI posted a picture of the Indian cricket team at the Indian High Commission in London. Sharma was seen standing alongside her husband in the picture and was trolled for being part of what many considered to be a “team India” photo-op.

With no other wives of the touring cricketers attending the event, there were questions asked about why only the skipper’s wife was present. Her place in the picture was also questioned, with vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane relegated to the back of the group photo.

Team sources had revealed earlier during this tour that wives and families of Indian cricketers had been asked to stay away till the end of the third Test and even though Shikhar Dhawan, Umesh Yadav, R Ashwin and Cheteshwar Pujara’s wives were all present in London on the night, none of them chose to accept the invite for the dinner.

Shikhar Dhawan’s wife instead posted the picture of all of them enjoying a dinner together at Nando’s!
