In another blow to the Men in Blue, Vijay Shankar was on Monday, 1 July, ruled out of the World Cup owing to his toe injury. And as Mayank Agarwal was named the replacement in the squad for the remainder of the tournament, the internet had questions.
Fans asked why Team India didn’t bring in Ambati Rayudu, the middle-order batsman who was originally in contention for the No 4 spot, and instead chose Mayank, who hasn’t even made his One Day International debut as yet.
While some felt that the call made by the board was unfair to Rayudu, others thought only memes could help describe the fate that has befallen Rayudu.
Twitterati also couldn’t help but remind Rayudu of his tweet that he had posted in response to selectors who said they picked Shankar because he was a three-dimensional player. Some even suggested that tweet could have cost Rayudu a spot in the World Cup squad.
