1. Champions League: Man City Floor Barcelona
Pep Guardiola was left thrilled after Manchester City revived their Champions League bid by beating his old club Barcelona 3-1 in a Group C encounter at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday.
Ilkay Guendogan scored twice and Kevin de Bruyne netted a superb free kick in a magnificent display from the home side that ended Barcelona's 100 percent record and made handsome amends for City's 4-0 drubbing at the Nou Camp two weeks ago.
The victory looked unlikely when Lionel Messi followed up his hat-trick in that game with a dazzling opener on the counter attack in the 21st minute and Barca were in control before Guendogan cashed in on a Sergi Roberto mistake.
2. Arsenal Earn Comeback Win to Reach Knockout Round
Mesut Ozil scored a superb late winner as Arsenal hit back from two goals down to beat resilient Ludogorets 3-2 on Tuesday and secure their place in the last 16 of the Champions League with two games to spare.
The North London club, who reached the tournament's knockout stages for a 17th time in a row, and Paris St Germain, who also qualified after a 2-1 away win over Basel, are joint top in Group A with 10 points from four matches. Ludogorets and Basel have one point.
3. Indian Team for England Series to be Picked Today
Fit-again pacer Ishant Sharma is likely to make a comeback when the national selection committee announce the the Indian team for the upcoming Test series against England commencing November 9.
It would be interesting to see whether the selectors repose faith in Gambhir, who made a half century in the Indian second innings at Indore, if Rahul and Dhawan are both passed fit to play. Gambhir also made 147 in Delhi's last Ranji match against Odisha.
Pace bowler Ishant is expected to be included after recovering from Chikungunya. He was picked for the opening Test against New Zealand at Kanpur but could not play any part in the rubber. He has played 2 Ranji matches, bowling more than 40 overs at good pace.
4. Modi Hands Over Rs 4 Cr to Paralympic Medalist Deepa Malik
Prime Minister Narendra Modi felicitated Rio Paralympics’ medal winner Deepa Malik with a cash award of Rs 4 crore. Malik, who hails from Haryana, was the first Indian woman athlete to win a medal at the Paralympics in Rio.
She won a silver medal in the women's shot put event with a throw of 4.61m at the paralympics.
Modi handed over the cheque to Malik in the presence of Khattar and Haryana's Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Anil Vij.
5. Indian Eves Remain Unbeaten in Women's Asian Champions Trophy
Indian eves continued their impressive performance by registering an emphatic 2-0 victory over Malaysia in their third pool match of the 4th Women's Asian Champions Trophy.
With this win, India remained at the top of the pool table with seven points above Korea, China, Japan and Malaysia respectively.
India will next take on China on November 4.
6. Oltmans Set to Get Extension Till 2020 Olympics
With the Indian men's hockey team delivering some fine results under his tutelage, Roelant Oltmans' contract as chief coach is set to be extended till the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Oltmans', who served as High Performance Director before doubling up as chief coach following the sacking of Paul van Ass last year, has helmed the team to the Azlan Shah Cup silver medal and most recently the Asian Champions Trophy gold.
"Yes, we got a request from Hockey India asking about renewal of Oltmans' contract till 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Looking at the team's progress and his performance, the Sports Authority of India doesn't have any problems. So, we have forwarded the file to the Ministry. So you can say it's in progress," a top SAI source told PTI.
