Indian boxer and five time world champion, MC Mary Kom has failed to secure a berth at Rio Olympics. According to the Times of India report, Kishen Narsi, the chairman of AIBA ad-hoc committee on Wednesday confirmed that Mary Kom will not be representing India in Rio.
AIBA had earlier requested a wild card entry for the five time world champion. However, International Olympic Committee (IOC) did not accept the request citing that India had eight or more boxers in previous two games.
It is the decision made by the International Olympic Committee that nations which has not had more than eight boxers in the previous two games will be granted the card. India had eight boxers in London itself with seven men and Mary Kom among the pugilists qualifying.Kishen Narsi, Chairman, AIBA
Narsi further added that although it is sad that India’s pride Mary Kom will not participate in Rio Olympics, they will respect the decision of IOC.
