Mahela Jayawardene retired from international cricket after the ICC World Cup earlier this year and the Sri Lankan legend is already set to make his debut on the other side of a cricket field.
The former Lankan skipper has been named in England’s management staff for their upcoming series against Pakistan and he has been roped in as a batting consultant for the test team.
England are slated to play Pakistan in three tests, four ODIs and three T20s between October 13 and November 30 in the UAE.
The ECB also announced that former England captain Paul Collingwood too would be joining the team’s back-room. He will work with the limited overs squad in the UAE and during next year’s World Twenty20.
