Delhi Capitals will take on the mighty Chennai Super Kings on 10 May to determine who faces Mumbai Indians in the final of the IPL 2019 in Hyderabad.

It is a typical David vs Goliath battle. The two teams have played 20 matches against each other throughout the history of Indian Premier League, and Delhi has come out on top on just six occasions.

There is no doubt about the fact that Chennai Super Kings will enter the Eliminator as favourites. They have already defeated Delhi in the two league matches this season. The last encounter between the two sides saw Delhi Capitals being bowled out for just 99 chasing 180.

As the two sides go head-to-head again at the Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam, here is a look at the top five encounters between the two sides throughout the history of Indian Premier League.

CSK Won By 1 Run in 2015

Powered by the handy contributions from Dhoni (30), Dwayne Smith (34), and Faf Du Plessis (32) Chennai Super Kings posted a competitive total of 150/7.

Chasing 151, Delhi got off to bad start as they lost both of their openers early. But Albie Morkel’s counter attacking innings of 73* reignited the hopes in Delhi’s camp. With six needed off the last ball, Morkel could only manage to hit a boundary and CSK eventually won by 1 run.

Chennai Won By 86 Runs in 2012

Knockout matches and Delhi don’t go together. This was again evident in their 2012 clash during the knockout stage. Batting first on an absolutely flat track, CSK opener made merry as they smashed an incredible 113 off 58 balls to power Chennai to a daunting 222/5.

Chasing 223, Delhi never got going. Mahela Jayawardene’s half century went in vain as no other batsmen showed to will to fight. Delhi eventualy succumbed to a 86 run defeat.

Delhi Won By 34 Runs in 2018

Handy contributions from Harshal Patel, Rishabh Pant and Vijay Shankar saw Delhi post an average total of 162/5.

CSK, with most their players in a good nick, started off as favorites. But no batsmen other than Ambati Rayudu stood up to the occasion and threw away their promising starts. CSK played the full quota of their overs but could only manage 128/6.

Chennai Won By 86 Runs in 2013

One of the most complete performances by Chennai Super Kings saw Delhi Capitals being bundled out for their lowest score against the Yellow Army.

Batting first, Chennai posted a competitive 169, Courtesy, half century by Michael Hussey and a quickfire 44 by MS Dhoni.

Chasing 170 on a good batting surface shouldn't have been a problem for Delhi but a severe batting collapse saw them being bundled out for just 83 runs, handing CSK a 86-run victory.

Delhi Won By 8 Wickets in 2008

Powered by S Vidyut’s half century, CSK posted a par total of 169/6.

Chasing 170, Gautam Gambhir ( 50 ) and Virender Sehwag ( 71 ) looked in a hurry as they stitched a 113-run partnership in no time.

Riding on a solid opening partnership, Delhi eventually won the match by 8 wickets.
