One of the major factors behind Mumbai Indians’ success is their retaining policy. Their core team has remained the same over the years. No matter what happens they make sure they don’t play around with the basic ingredients of their success.

They bought their current captain Rohit Sharma in the year 2011 and he has been with the team since then. Strike bowler Lasith Malinga is with the team since the very first season of IPL.

The team bought Hardik Pandya in 2015 and has kept him in the roster since then.

This policy of retaining the main core of the team gives confidence to players that the team management is backing them, specially through their bad phase. Gradually, these players have got settled and have made themselves irreplaceable in the squad.

Indian Premier League is a tournament which is known to provide young and fresh talent to international cricket, especially to the Indian cricket team. Each and every squad has a certain quota for uncapped players who have never represented any major international team.

Nobody has done it better than Mumbai Indians when it comes to providing young and promising talent to Indian cricket.

Former New Zealand captain John Wright, who also coached India, was the head coach of Mumbai Indians in 2013 when the team won their first ever IPL trophy. Two years later he resigned from the head coach post and became the talent scout manager for the team.

The former New Zealand captain used to attend various domestic tournament’s across the country along with his team just to find young and promising talents for Mumbai Indians.

Instead of relaxing at his home in Christchurch, he was always seen in an Indian ground.

India’s leading strike bowler Jasprit Bumrah came to the fore when MI bought him in the 2013 auctions.

The right-arm-fast played only two matches in his first ever IPL, picking three wickets at an average of 23.33. His next two seasons were also not too good by his standards. He introduced himself to world cricket in 2016 after he claimed 15 wickets in 14 matches at an average of 27.6.

Apart from the squad, support staff play a major role in building a successful team. Rohit Sharma’s team has made sure that they have a strong support staff to help their players improve their performance in every way possible.

At the helm of their support staff are two cricketing legends, Sachin Tendulkar and Mahela Jayawardene. While Mahela is the coach of the team, Sachin acts as a mentor for the boys. Both of them, along with the other staff members, have helped the team achieve a lot of success.

Any youngster would want to be in a dressing room where Sachin and Mahela is present to help you in your batting and a Zaheer Khan along with Shane Bond to assist you in your bowling.
