The fans at the Wankhede stadium witnessed Kieron Pollard unleash his big shots as Mumbai Indians successfully chased down Kings XI Punjab’s 198. He scored a 31 ball 83 and took his team to a win.
Mumbai got off to a slow start in their chase and lost 3 wickets inside the first 10 overs. After Ishan Kishan’s dismissal, Pollard was joined by Hardik Pandya and the duo added 41 in 18 balls for the fifth wicket, which started Mumbai’s resurgence towards the target. Despite Hardik Pandya’s wicket Pollard continued scoring at a steady rate.
With 15 needed off the final over, Ankit Rajpoot dismissed Pollard off his second delivery to give some hope to the Punjab camp. However, Alzarri Joseph and Rahul Chahar kept their cool to help Mumbai get past the finish line.
An elated Mumbai Indians dugout greeted their hero Pollard who was also the stand – in skipper for the game in Rohit Sharma’s absence, who missed the game due to a muscle spasm.
“Plan was to attack Ashwin as spin wasn’t doing great. Unfortunately it didn’t happen but it was about staying calm. Was a difficult pitch to bowl on and good to bat on, so we did well with the ball after the start they got. We did pull things back in the middle overs a bit but lost the plot at the end. Again, can’t be harsh on the bowlers. We finished on the right end of the result and thanks to God for that to.”Kieron Pollard, Mumbai Indians
Meanwhile, Twitter was buzzing with praise for Pollard’s powerful innings. Here are the best tweets from the game.
