For the second successive match in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019, Delhi Capitals gave away their advantage to find themselves in a precarious situation.

Delhi managed to edge past Kolkata Knight Riders in the Super-Over in New Delhi on Saturday, 30 March despite being in control for a greater part of the match. But on Monday in Mohali, no such luck was at display as the Shreyas Iyer-led side exhibited one of biggest batting collapse in IPL history to lose by 14 runs to Kings XI Punjab.

Chasing a comfortable 167 for victory, Delhi Capitals were cruising at 144/3 in the 16.3 overs. Needing 23 runs off 21 balls, it was certainly Delhi’s match to lose from there on. They went onto lose their next seven wickets for only eight runs in the span of 16 balls.

Apart from the callousness and reckless batting from the Delhi batsmen, it was the pair of Sam Curran and Mohammad Shami in the death overs that did more damage to Delhi’s fortunes. In fact, Sam went onto become the youngest bowler to take a hat-trick in IPL.

In the end Delhi Capitals, who were 144/3, were bundled out by the Kings XI side with four balls to spare and still 15 runs away from their target.

For cricket fans, who have been witnessed to such a performance from Delhi in the past, Monday’s loss might not come as surprise. And as expected Twitter users weren’t kind with their tweets as once again Delhi did the unthinkabale
