He got out for a duck in his final match of the season, but Jonny Bairstow’s farewell game was from being reflective of the run he had in his first-ever edition of the Indian Premier League.
After scoring 445 runs in 10 games at a strike rate of 157.24, the Sunrisers’ opener walked out of the IPL without scoring a single run in his final innings. However, the 29-year old enjoyed emphatic form in the top of the order for the 2016 IPL Champions.
“I’ve absolutely loved it. Not my day today, but it’s been an great experience. Great experience with the players, the support staff and some people you can only learn off.” Bairstow said during the IPL match on Tuesday, 23 April in Chennai.
When asked about his takeaways from this IPL in terms of cricketing experience, the Englishman said, “I think the main thing is just having confidence in your own ability at the top of the order. Going out and playing the way you want to... I mean tonight I just didn’t get into the ball and that’s how I got out,”
Bairstow alongside opener David Warner has been the key to Hyderabad’s batting success this season. The top two run scorers of this IPL have amassed four hundred run partnerships.
“You speak about the stats and everything, it’s been fantastic. If he had got off to a flyer, I just give him the strike, so it’s been great.”
Bairstow will now be heading home to join the English side for the one T-20 and five ODIs against Pakistan before the World Cup in June.
