The game between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals was full of drama, emotions and some never-before seen scenes which became the talking points of the game.
After being put into bat first, Rajasthan posted 151/7 in their 20 overs. Some controlled bowling by the home bowlers in Jaipur then saw them take the game right down to the wire and get themselves to a position of victory.
With 18 needed off 6 balls, Royals skipper Ajinkya Rahane handed the ball over to Ben Stokes and that is when the drama started.
Here is how the final over of the match panned out. A complete nail-biter!
19.1: 6 runs
Stokes started the over by being hit for a six by Ravindra Jadeja who lost his balance while hitting the shot and fell to the ground. The ball though ended up reaching the stands.
19.2: 2 Runs (No Ball)
A nervous Stokes, bowled a no-ball next and the strike was rotated over by Jadeja.
19.2: 2 Runs (Free-Hit Ball)
This meant that Dhoni was now ready to face the free-hit ball which went for just 2. A back of a length delivery and a tired Dhoni could not muster the power to hit the ball for more than two runs.
19.3: Dhoni Out
Stokes redeemed himself in the next delivery and dismissed Dhoni as he broke through the CSK skipper’s defense to rattle his stumps. The Royals supporters at the stadium jumped up with joy to see the back of the former Indian skipper.
CSK were reduced to 143/6, needing 8 off the last 3 balls.
19.4: 2 Runs
This one was the big controversial delivery.
Stokes bowled a high full toss to Mitchell Santner. Initially, it looked as if umpire Gandhe was about to signal a no-ball as he lifted his right arm, but he eventually decided otherwise.
The batsmen ran two runs but as the no-ball was not given, Ravindra Jadeja approached the umpire in protest.
This prompted MS Dhoni to lose his cool and charge onto the ground and get into an argument with the umpires. Despite the confrontation with Dhoni, the on-field umpires did not change their decision.
6 were needed off the last 2 balls.
19.5: 1 Run
Stokes bowls a slower delivery to Santner which yields just 1 run, leaving CSK needing 4 runs off the final ball.
19.6: 1 Run (Wide Ball)
Needing to avoid a big hit, Stokes gets it wrong and bowls a wide delivery way outside the off stump which the umpire rules in favor of the team in yellow.
One run for Chennai and another ball left to win the match.
3 runs needed.
19.6: 6 Runs
This time, Stokes bowls a slower delivery which is well picked by Santner and the Kiwi hits the ball straight down the ground and over the bowler’s head.
The ball clears the boundary line as Santner gets Chennai Super Kings home with a maximum in the final delivery of the match.
