Humming Mohammed Rafi’s immemorial song, Sukh Ke Sab Sathi, Dukh Main Na Koi... some political leaders in India chose to ignore the Indian cricket team in their hour of defeat.

Instead, they were quick bask in the glory of the Indian Hockey team’s 7-1 win against Pakistan in Hockey World League semi finals. They also remembered to congratulate badminton champ Kidambi Srikanth for victory in the Indonesia Open.

On the other hand, there were no words of consolation or any kind of “do well next time” after team India’s dramatic loss to Pakistan in the Champions Trophy finals.

Rahul Gandhi, who tweeted this in anticipation of the India Vs Pakistan showdown in London, chose to stay silent on their loss later.

He, however, did congratulate the Men In Blues of Hockey on their win.

What about Prime Minister Narendra Modi? We scanned through his Twitter feed of the last 24 hours. Apart from a congratulatory note on Kidambi Srikanth’s performance, not a single word on Kohli and his boys.

Following the trend, President Pranab Mukherjee too tweeted out his well wishes to Kidambi. And that was it.

Union Sports Minister Vijay Goel’s social media feed was colored with celebrations of the hockey win. Although, he in this video he did say ‘let’s support every sport.’

Some even took a light-hearted tone on it.

While it’s refreshing to see sports other than cricket getting some limelight, the complete silence on India's performance in the Champion’s Trophy comes as a shock. Can we only stand with our Indian cricket team in their days of glory?
