It’s not just the BCCI Secretary Anurag Thakur, that “suspected bookie” Karan Gilhotra has shared the frame with, he has also been seen with some other illustrious names.
In one of the pictures in his Facebook account, he is seen with MS Dhoni, captain of Chennai Super Kings, the team that’s seen controversy over the last couple of years with its team owner and ICC chief N Srinivasan’s son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan being accused of betting.
But not just Dhoni. He has also been seen with Mumbai Indians owner Mukesh Ambani.
And with the IPL’s marquee player, Yuvraj Singh, who has played for several franchisees, and is now with the Delhi Daredevils.
And here, with Kings XI Punjab co-owner Preity Zinta.
And with Bollywood star and co-owner of Rajasthan Royals, Shilpa Shetty.
And with Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar.
Who is Karan Gilhotra?
According to a report in on CNN-IBN, Gilhotra is a 38-year-old from Ghaniani, a village near Fazilka in Punjab.
Gilhotra’s name also features in the ‘Limca Book of Records’ for becoming the youngest-ever sarpanch (village head) at the age of 21 years and four months.
In addition to that, Gilhotra also promotes Celebrity Cricket League team Punjab de Sher. He has a close affiliation with the Shiromani Akali Dal, the political party in power in Punjab.
BCCI vs ICC Turf War
Gilhotra, who was unknown until last week has been in the news after he appeared in a picture with BCCI Secretary Anurag Thakur. The ICC on Monday sent a letter to the BCCI claiming that Gilhotra is a suspect under ICC’s anti-corruption and security unit’s watch for his proximity to players during the Indian Premier League 2014.
The turf war between BCCI and the ICC turned bitter on Monday following Thakur’s explosive reply and a series of Tweets to ICC chairman N Shrinivasan.
