After the sensational sacking of Mauricio Pochettino by Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday, the team announced the Special One - Jose Mourinho as the replacement for the outgoing Argentinian coach.
Mourinho, who last coached Manchester United in 2018 has been appointed as his replacement. The Portuguese manager was sacked by Manchester United in December 2018 and had been out of a job since.
Mourinho signed a contract with the Spurs which will last until the end of the 2022-23 season.
Tottenham currently sit 14th in the Premier League after a slow start to the season. Pochettino was axed by chairman Daniel Levy a week after his 1-1 draw with recently promoted Sheffield United.
Mourinho is a three-time Premier League Champion, winning all his titles with Chelsea. He has also won the UEFA Champions League with Porto and Inter Milan, and the Europa League with Manchester United.
“In Jose we have one of the most successful managers in football. He has a wealth of experience, can inspire teams and is a great tactician. He has won honours at every club he has coached. We believe he will bring energy and belief to the dressing room.”Daniel Levy, Chairman, Tottenham Hotspur
Mourinho has spoken about his appointment in the official club statement saying: “I am excited to be joining a Club with such a great heritage and such passionate supporters. The quality in both the squad and the academy excites me. Working with these players is what has attracted me.”
