Lozano’s goal set off such a commotion that seismic detectors in Mexico City registered an ‘artifical’ earthquake, which the Geological institute said may have been generated by “massive jumps” across the city.

Their twitter handle said, “The seisms detected in Mexico City originated artificially. Possibly by massive jumps during the Goal of the selection of Mexico in the world. At least two sensors inside the City detected it at 11:32.”

Fans across the world, took to Twitter to express their horror over this shocker of a result against the defending champions, who had not lost a World Cup opener since 1982 and won its four previous initial matches by a combined score of 20-2.

The ecstatic fans celebrated the win with a hope that their country can win the World Cup.

"We aspire to win a World Cup this time," said Miguel Paez, a 31-year-old who donned a Mexican wrestling mask in the colors of the national flag as he celebrated on Mexico City's main avenue, Paseo de la Reforma.

After Sunday’s win, Mexico sit at the top of the group table. They play against South Korea and Sweden on 23 and 27 June respectively.
