Bangladesh’s Mustafa Kamal has resigned from his position as International Cricket Council (ICC) President after claiming to have been snubbed at the World Cup trophy presentation ceremony.

He announced his resignation at a press conference in Dhaka on Wednesday.

According to reports, Kamal was upset that he was not allowed to present the World Cup trophy to champions Australia. The Bangladeshi had previously also let his ire be known about India’s victory against Bangladesh in the quarterfinals.

Things escalated quickly on Monday when Kamal threatened to expose the “mischievous” designs of certain people within the ICC who had denied him the right to hand over the World Cup trophy.

ICC Chairman N. Srinivasan presented the World Cup trophy to the Australian team after the final, but Kamal claimed that the ICC’s amendment of its rules in January 2015 mandated that the President give away trophies at global competitions. Said an aggrieved Kamal: “I was supposed to give the trophy. It is my constitutional right. But very unfortunately, I wasn’t allowed to do so. My rights were dishonoured. After I go back home, I will let the whole world know what’s happening in ICC. I will let the whole world know about those guys who are doing these mischievous things.”

Kamal had been in the news earlier for criticizing the Indian win against Bangladesh, claiming that “umpiring bias” had turned the tide in favour of the Indians. The controversy had stemmed from Rohit Sharma not being given out to a Rubel Hossain delivery which was called a no-ball. Kamal, however, had declared at the time that it looked like a “touch and go” decision.
