Former South African cricketer Herschelle Gibbs reacted to an old video of Virat Kohli in which the current Indian skipper can be heard hailing Gibbs as his favourite cricketer. The video is from the Under 19 World Cup Virat played in 2008.
Indian cricket team’s captain Virat Kohli is probably in the form of his life. He is arguably the best batsman across all formats in the modern day era and is also termed the best chaser in ODI cricket.
Virat was true to form when he played an unbeaten knock of 72 off 52 balls against South Africa on Wednesday, 18 September, in the second T20I in Mohali. He remained not out till the end and steered India to victory.
His innings included elegant cover drives and amazing flicks, scoring runs in every part of the ground. In fact, a particular flick off Rabada (Kohli flicked the first ball of the 17th over for a six over the backward square) caught Gibbs’ eye and tempted him to tweet about it:
An Indian fan was quick to reply by tweeting an old video of Virat Kohli from the 2008 Under-19 World Cup, where, in his introduction video, he mentions Gibbs as his favourite cricketer. The Indian fan said, “ Virat learnt from you.”
Gibbs reacted jovially with an “ok then”!
India will next play South Africa in the 3rd T20 on Sunday, 22 September, in Bangalore.
